Are you looking for something fun to do after school or during sports study hall? Are you interested in learning about Spanish culture? If you answered yes to one or both of these questions,  Spanish Club is the thing for you. Miss Ziegler and the club officers are preparing for an exciting year! Crafts, food, and games are just a few examples of the things you can expect at a typical meeting.

Besides all of the fun activities that will be done in school, the club will be going on field trips, including the trip to Spain in February 2016. While in Spain, students will explore Barcelona and visit the world famous street, Las Ramblas. This is a vibrant and lively street that cuts through the heart of Barcelona. It is famous for its shops, restaurants, and human statues. They will also be touring Madrid and taking a flamenco dance lesson. “As I myself have already been to these places, I am most looking forward to seeing the looks on my students’ faces as they see them in person for the first time,” says Miss Ziegler. The trip will be a wonderful experience for students to learn about Spanish culture first-hand, put their language skills to use, and make memories that will last a lifetime.

The club will also be taking their annual field trip to a Mexican restaurant. This gives members the chance to try authentic Mexican cuisine and socialize in an alternative environment.

Other annual events in Spanish Club include celebrating Hispanic holidays such as Cinco de Mayo and Dia de los Muertos with cultural foods and festivities. It is a great chance to learn about the many traditions of Spanish-speaking countries. Also, this spring there will be a Zumba workout for the third year in a row. An instructor will be invited to school to teach members dance movements to energetic Latin American music. “I’m also toying with the idea of putting together a Zumba act for this year’s talent show in which Spanish Club members (and anybody who’s interested) learns the same choreographed Zumba song to perform,” Miss Ziegler added.

To help cover the cost of field trips and other activities, club members have started their annual fundraiser. They will be selling Entertainment Coupon Books for $25 each until October 2nd.

Spanish Club is a great way to get involved in school and it’s informational and fun. You do not even need to be enrolled in a Spanish class to join! The club meets every month so listen to announcements for meeting dates. Give Spanish Club a try!
