Varsity Girls Basketball Looking Forward to the Alden State Bank Tournament

Matthew Schuh, Reporter

The Girls Basketball team is excited for the 2016 Alden State Bank Tournament which will be held at the Alden High School.  The girls are looking forward to winning the Tournament for the first time in years after placing 3rd in last years tournament.  I recently spoke with Senior Cookie Altieri and she said “We are all looking forward to the tournament this year and would like to win our own tournament which we have not done in years”.

The girls have six returning seniors this year in which most of them will be starting, not to forget Junior Sydney Thompson who started last year as a Sophomore.  Other teams competing in the Tournament are Akron, Pembroke, and Saint Mary’s High School.  Pembroke is looking to repeat after they won the tournament last year defeating the Alden Bulldogs in the Championship game.  The girls have been working hard from the beginning of the season trying to prepare themselves for the Tournament.

Seniors Cookie Altieri and Sara Augustine are the Bulldogs key players this year looking to lead the team to victory this year in the Tournament.  Sophomore Shelby Kirsten is looking to post up down low as the big post player on the Bulldogs along with Cookie.  Anne Kocher is looking to shoot the ball a lot this year as the best shooter on the team this year.  Sara will be in control of the offense with the ball in her hand most of the time as the best ball handler we have on the team this year.

Come to see the girls tip-off their season this Friday at home in the Alden State Bank Tournament at 5:30.
