The 2016-17 winter sports season has finally come to an end here at Alden High School. Many of the student athletes had excellent seasons, and some students even broke records. Alexandra “Cookie” Altieri shot her way up the girls basketball leaderboard into the 9th highest scorer of all time here in Alden. She reached the milestone in a 55-35 win against Maryvale on February 7th, 2017. With the mark, she knocks off former top 10 scorer Leah Glauser. Cookie had an excellent season this year as well as an exemplary career here in Alden.

I had a chance to speak with Cookie and hear what she had to say. She was honored to reach the achievement and she was also very gracious to her teammates. “I just kept working hard and set goals for myself each game.”

Her coach also had nothing but great things to say about his former player. “It’s been a privilege to coach a player like her,” Coach Delzer said.

Despite her success, she has decided she will pursue volleyball or track in college instead of basketball. It looks like Cookie has permanently left her mark on Alden Girls’ Basketball. From all of us here at WACS News, Congratulations Cookie!
