A New Face to Varsity Volleyball

The start of the school year brings about many changes.  One such change is the new Varsity Volleyball coach, Mr. Jeff Steinel.  Coach Steinel has stepped up to the plate and has taken on the responsibility of coaching and leading the volleyball team to a winning season. “I’m expecting a very successful year. I’m hoping we can have a winning percentage over five-hundred,” said Steinel.

Coach Steinel has made it very clear that no matter the outcome of the season, his goal is to make sure all of the girls are having fun and trying their best. He states, “I’m hoping that all the girls have a fun and healthy time this year.”

Along with coaching volleyball, Mr. Steinel is also a part of the math department here at AHS. He teaches Pre-Algebra and Trigonometry. He is very dedicated to his students and does whatever he can to see them succeed.

Aside from coaching for Alden, Mr. Steinel has had six years prior experience, varying from modified all the way to varsity, boys and girls. Although Coach Steinel is very confident in the team he has assembled, he states, “Eden will probably be our biggest rival this upcoming season. They have won the division the past twenty or so years, so it would be very meaningful if we could overcome them this year.” He states that his prediction for the team’s record will be ten wins and four losses, which is challenging, yet very possible.

“We have a great group of girls that are all very hardworking, caring and thoughtful. We also have a good blend of height as well as volleyball skill,” says Mr. Steinel as he talks about specific strengths that he thinks his team possesses. Along with all strengths come weaknesses. Coach says that his team will always have to work on serve-receive passing, as they can always have something to improve on. Even with these few weaknesses, he has total and complete confidence in his whole team.

The girls have a jam-packed schedule coming up and will have to stay extra focused as they continue on the road to sectionals. Senior night will be taking place on October 19 at 4:30pm at the High School Gymnasium. Come show your support and make Coach Steinel feel welcome as he leads the Varsity Volleyball team to success.
