What Do Teachers Do Over Christmas Break?

Timothy Hinsken, Anchor

Around Christmas time, everyone becomes full of joy and look forward to spending time with friends and family. Students at Alden Senior High School often look forward to Christmas break more than most other things. Many students begin to plan what they are going to do during their free time over break. But has anyone ever thought about what the teachers do over Christmas break? What do teachers find most exciting to do over Christmas break? I decided that it would be a good idea to find out. I interviewed various teachers from Alden to find out what teachers enjoy doing over Christmas break. I was expecting many of the teachers to say that they were excited to spend time with their family or looking forward to being able to relax and sleep in. However, the answers I received were anything but that. The teachers said they were looking forward to activities such as cleaning windows, organizing their basement, and sorting through papers! All those activities do not sound like a fun way to spend my Christmas break from school. The teachers’ sincerity in their answers was even more shocking because it was easy to tell that they were excited to do these tasks, which many high school students would not find exciting. It was an amazing experience to be able to find out what teachers’ lives are like when we are not in school. They may do some activities that are not that exciting, but, like most everyone this time of year, they are looking forward to spending time with their family and friends.
