Alden Primary School: Valentine’s Day and 100th Day of School

Carolyn Freeman, Associate Producer

The Thursday before February break, students of the Alden Primary School celebrated Valentine’s Day and the 100th Day of School with various festivities. The kindergarteners spent the day frosting cookies, passing out candy and Valentine’s cards to their peers, and playing games.

Asking them what their favorite holiday is, it proves to be a challenge to find a child who loves any other day of the year more than Christmas. After finally receiving “Valentine’s Day” as an answer in regards to the students’ favorite holiday, the next question proves to be far more important in a thought-provoking sense… “what job would you have when you’re a hundred years old?”.

A few of the responses include hair dresser, construction worker, teacher, doctor, dentist, to simply “I would just be at the nursing home”. If you’re wondering about how these students’ hair went gray or wrapped up in curlers so nicely, there are some dedicated parents of their kindergarten students. Some dressed up while others wore red or pink to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Every student, despite their favorite holiday being Christmas, was excited to celebrate Valentine’s Day and the 100th Day of School. Asking a few students what their favorite part about this holiday is, they answered considerately and meaningfully. One student cares about Valentine’s Day because “I care about people, my family, and I really want to celebrate it”.

Valentine’s Day is the day to share love with the one’s you care about. Although it has passed, these kindergarteners are knowledgeable in how to brighten anyone’s day and it was delightful to interact with them on such a lively day at the primary school.
