Librock Swings Into Action as Girls Tennis Coach
September 21, 2015
Three weeks in to what had all the makings of a promising start to the 2015 Alden Girls’ Varsity Tennis Season, a coaching shake up almost caused things to come to a screeching halt. After the current coach was offered a full time teaching position in the city of Buffalo, the girls were left with quite a predicament on their hands. With their first match right around the corner the Lady Bulldogs were suddenly left without a coach to lead them. Enter Alden Athletic Director, Matthew Librock.
Unable to find anyone to fill the coaching gap, Mr. Librock decided to put down the pen and paper and once again pick up the whistle and assume the role of the new Girls Varsity Tennis Coach. Coach Librock has no tennis experience outside of his physical education degree from college; however, that isn’t stopping him. In an interview Coach Librock said “Coaching is really something in itself…” He has relied on his past coaching experiences to help guide him through this new role but feels confident with the new obstacles he now has to overcome.
Not only does he now have to juggle the roles of Coach and Athletic Director, he also is teaching two classes of Heath in the Middle School every day. This along with balancing family has put a lot on his plate. Balancing the duties of all this is something the coach says he’s used to. He credits Athletic Secretary, Mrs. Bailey for helping him out and allowing him to be able to assume this new role. The last few years and even in the past he was worked along side with others at the Athletic Director position as Co-Athletic Director. In addition, he was able to still teach Middle School students the ins and outs of adolescence along with coaching various sports at the same time. Coach Librock has been a part of many sports teams in the past including softball, soccer and football.
Coach Librock is looking forward to his new experience as the coach and is excited for the team he has this year. They are a young team this year with only one returning player but the skies still look blue for the Lady Bulldogs with much young experience. Coach Librock said Tennis matches are like chess matches with much strategy along with skill on the player’s part. Best of luck to Coach Librock and the Lady Bulldogs on the 2015 season!

I am very thankful that Coach Librock stepped in when he did. I am part of the Girls Varsity Tennis team and this is only my first year. I play first Doubles with Emma Sheehan and it has been quite an adventure! I was very upset when our old Coach left but very happy for him at the same time because he got an amazing opportunity to work at another school. When Coach Librock called us into his office I just thought that Girls varsity Tennis would now just be known as history. I was over joyed when he told us he would be our new coach! I have bonded with all of the team members and hope to play the sport the next three years of high School! Coach Librock has done an amazing job and I hope he will continue to coach us the following years! I am so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone and joined such an amazing team!

I agree with every positive statement about Mr. Librock. His willingness to tack tennis coach to his already long to-do list is admirable.
