Homecoming Festivities
Homecoming will be here before you know it…
September 17, 2015
Homecoming is right around the corner and each grade level is busy preparing floats for the annual parade. The competition for the floats is very stiff amongst the four grade levels. This time of the year is usually a lot of people’s favorite due to all the fun activities that are organized by the school spirit pillar. The floats aren’t the only thing that busying students during this time period, hallway decorating is also a highlight of homecoming. Each grade level gets a hallway and decorates it as the same theme they have for the float. The over arching theme for this year’s homecoming is apps. Each grade level president is in charge of the float along with the other officers.
Justin Evoy is a freshman this year and he serves as class president. Talking to him about his first homecoming, he is most excited for the football game he said. Getting used to all the things that go on during this period, he thinks his class will do pretty good during the floats and hall decorating. Justin said, “The juniors will be our biggest rival”. The Freshman theme is Fruit Ninja. Asking Justin how far they have gotten on their float he said that they are just building it. They have all their ideas planned out, now they just need to put it together on the trailer. This should be pretty exciting to see how well they do for their first year in high school and being new to all of the homecoming festivities.
The Sophomores are set to embark on their second homecoming this year and their theme is Plants vs. Zombies. When asked what Rachael Kueker was excited about for homecoming the first thing she said was, “I’m just excited to not be a freshman this year”. Freshmen always gets picked on just because they are Freshmen and they are new to everything. Being used to setting up their float now they have an idea of what is expected. Rachael explained that they are about half way done with their float and she thinks they’re going to do better than they did last year.
Farmville is making an appearance as the juniors look to conquer this theme. Jenna Rutowski is the Junior class president and is excited for homecoming. During this time she said that she is most excited about the parade to see all the floats and also the dance. This class is always good with being artistic and they are basically done with their float already. Jenna said, “I hope we do well, I think everyone is going to do well this year”. The junior’s biggest rivals are the seniors and the sophomores as Jenna said. She likes their theme and is excited to see how everything turns out.
Last but not least are the Seniors that take on the theme of Angry Birds. Senior class president Joe Wallace is in charge of the float and he said that the class is half done at this point. Last year they thought they were going to win and thought the float was very well put together but I guess the judges didn’t agree with them. This year for their last year in the school they want to come out as strong as possible with the best ideas. Joe said, “ We’re going to win this year”and we are going to do really well.” The only thing that the seniors have to worry about is this Junior class Joe said. Every year the Seniors lose to the class under them so this year their goal is to beat them.
Each grade is excited about different things as homecoming approaches. The competition this year should be very competitive and it should be interesting to see who comes out on top. The floats and hallways are decorated in different ways as to which the kids think will have the best opportunity to win. Homecoming week is always exciting and filled with many activities to get students involved. Homecoming week is the week of September 28th.

This article was very helpful! it was nice to know which class had which theme. I also learned who is each class president. The only problem with the article is that the picture attached to the article, is from last year. It should’ve been from this year.

Thanks for your comment Jacob. This article was written before homecoming so the WACS News team utilized stock photos relevant to the article. Had it been written afterwards as a recap, there would have been current photos. The new news team is trying to stay ahead of the news rather than behind it.

I think this article was interesting to read. It was nice to hear comments from each of the class presidents on who they think will be their best opponents. Never underestimate the Sophomores though! We’ve got it this year!

I can’t wait for the parade. I’ll be leading the charge with the rest of the band.(well there’ll be a firetruck to clear a path but the band is leading the main part of the parade). I just hope it doesn’t rain or else no one will want to be there and it just won’t be fun.

Being a Freshman this year I am excited for my first homecoming. Along with all the other high school activities, I believe I will have fun in my years here. Freshman year however you are still getting used to things and feel liked everyone is judging you. People say it gets harder but it seems fun and easy in the end. So I’m going to see where this leads me. Thank you for some of the useful info.

I am very excited for homecoming this year. Being a Sophomore this year I know we are going to have an amazing year. I am so rooting for the Sophomores, but wish the other classes good luck. With this amazing information I may join the parade and the hallway decorations for my Junior year.

It’s great to know what to expect in the homecoming parade this year. The class rivalry is quite intense, as always. I’m looking forward to seeing if the juniors will come out on top once again, and to see what the freshmen float will look like.

I’m very excited to see each classes float. I personally am rooting for the freshman but I think that there will be a lot of competition. I’m sure that all three classes will do well and will work hard to have the winning float. Good luck to all four classes and may the best float win.
