Alden Sports are Back!
February 5, 2021
On January 24th, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that all high-risk sports could begin on February 1st. As soon as the news broke, all Alden athletes rejoiced and celebrated the fact that sports were finally back!
After months of waiting, high-risk sports such as basketball and ice hockey could begin practicing on February 1. Football and volleyball can begin practicing on March 22. With clearance from Erie County, all sports are able to begin playing games with new rules in place to keep everyone safe, such as no spectators and a requirement for students to wear masks while on the sideline or bench.
With the news breaking, we here at WACS News thought it was a good idea to get everyone back into the hype of a sports season, so we put together this video. While everyone is excited for sports to be back, few are more excited than senior athletes Micah Barrett and Haley Lerner.
“Having high school sports means a lot to me” says Haley. “With the way things have been going with the last year or so with lots of sports…being canceled, its really been hard on kids who rely on their sports,” Micah said.
Everyone here at WACS News is very excited sports are back and can’t wait to cover sports-related news over the next few months. But do remember Alden Bulldog athletes: Stay safe, compete, and be smart.
