Alden School District votes to adopt Juneteenth
On March 2, the Board of Education voted to make June 18 a district holiday in recognition of Juneteenth.
Juneteenth is a holiday that recognizes Emancipation Day, or the freeing of the slaves. It was recently adopted in many schools across the state. This year, Alden School District will celebrate with a day off on June 18.
Alden’s superintendent, Mr. Stoltman, said, ” I believe it’s important to celebrate because it’s a part of our great history in the United States.”
“I feel really proud and grateful to belong to a school that can recognize this and be able to talk about the holiday and its significance,” said Alden High School student Tiara Price.
