Cerebral Palsy Awareness: What Are the Perks?
With March wrapping up, I want to bring attention to something important to me and millions of other people around the world. The month of March is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month. Cerebral Palsy is a physical disability caused by strokes in children. One out of every 345 children in the U.S. are diagnosed with CP by the age of eight years old, making it the most common physical disability.
In honor of the month, I wanted to show some of the perks to having CP. Whenever people hear the word “disability,” they immediately think of all the negatives of having one. What they don’t realize is that when you live with the disability every day you tend to find positives and most of the time you don’t even realize you have it.
Disabilities don’t make anyone less than everyone else, just a little different. In the video I say, “Honestly, what’s the fun in being like everyone else?”
The symbol for CP is a butterfly. It symbolizes uniqueness and beauty in not only people with CP, but everyone else too.
Disabilities create challenges and obstacles for not only the people who have them, but for those around them. Many times, those with disabilities face those obstacles and challenges with silent strength, without anyone else seeing it. Each obstacle a disabled person faces makes them stronger and more courageous.
This video shows the bright side to my disability, proving that disabilities aren’t always a terrible thing. Do you want to see the bright side of CP? Watch the video to find out.
