Disability Awareness with Ayden Catanzaro & Jacob Dutka
People like me and Jake Dutka live in a world that isn’t built for us. Throughout our lives, we have to learn to adapt to the average world. Jacob has cerebral palsy and I have dwarfism. In this podcast, we talk about how we’ve learned to adapt to the world, our hospital horror stories, the good, the bad, and the ugly.
“It’s hard but that’s all we’ve known,” I tell Jake during our conversation. “That’s our normal.”
“And then you try to force the negative into the positive,” Jake responded.
I wanted to make this podcast to raise awareness for people with all kinds of disabilities, to show that we are like everyone else we just have to go about life in a different way. I feel like Elton John’s song “I’m Still Standing” represents both of our lives in a perfect way. The song shows we went through hell and back with all the medical problems, but we’re still standing.
