Do you know all the work that goes into costumes and set design? Alden High School prides itself on the quality of its theater program, yet many aspects are often overlooked. Let’s take a closer look at these underrated parts of theater.
The school play this year is “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” directed by Mr. Dabkowski. There are three shows on Nov. 16, 17, and 18. The cast and crew of this show have been rehearsing for this show since early September.
Many aspects of theater often get overlooked, such as costumes, set design, and lighting. The crew of this show works just as hard as the cast, having rehearsals every Thursday to work on the set.
“There are so many different opportunities that joining the theater program can provide, and I couldn’t begin to list them all,” Mr. Dabkowski said. “I would say primarily, to know yourself better, have a great time with your friends, and make them laugh, and cry, and clap.”
If you asked anyone that’s a part of theater, they would tell you the same thing: Joining the theater program is a worthwhile experience, and you can learn things that you would never have learned ordinarily. Theater can help you to learn more about yourself, as well as make lifelong friends.
“I know it’s kind of cliché, but you really do make a family here,” said senior Kiersten Schindler, who plays Hermia in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” “A lot of my best memories are from theater, the stuff we do in rehearsal, the beautiful performance we put on, and just seeing the magic happen along the way.”
