While the students of Alden Intermediate are hard at work, their minds tend to wander. That’s why the staff of Alden Intermediate put together a sensory hallway for students to wander through and clear their minds.
The goal of the sensory hallway is to give kids a space to clean their minds and get the wiggles out before getting back to work with a refreshed headspace. It is located in Alden Intermediate School’s music wing.
“The sensory hallway is a new space in the Intermediate school,” said the school’s principal, John Mikulski. “It was formerly just a passthrough hallway that we’ve converted into a place where kids can go whenever they need to just get the wiggles out and have kind of a brain reset throughout the day.”
The kids of Alden Intermediate, grade 3-5, use this hallway as a tool and enjoy the comfort it brings to them throughout the day. John Mikulski continued to describe the ways teachers use this hallway as a way to get kids focused, he explained “
“We saw this sensory hallway as just one more of those tools that teachers can use throughout the day,” Mikulski added.
