At Alden High School, the Art Club has become a vibrant hub for students of all interests and skill levels, offering a welcoming space for creativity, friendship, and community involvement. Led by Mrs. Cometto, a dedicated art teacher and the club’s faculty advisor, the Art Club is open to all students, regardless of whether they’re enrolled in art classes. “Anybody can join Art Club,” Mrs. Cometto says. “If you just enjoy art and making arts and crafts, come to Art Club!”
The Art Club has a longstanding history at Alden, initially guided by Mrs. Zacher and now led by Mrs. Cometto, who took over recently. This club provides students with a place to relax, explore new artistic techniques, and share ideas. It’s also a space where students can bond with friends while developing their artistic skills. One club member notes, “I like hanging out with my friends and seeing what kind of art they do. My favorite part is probably just chilling and making art with my friends.”
Throughout the year, Art Club engages in a wide variety of projects, many of which are holiday-themed or community-centered. This Halloween, members painted pumpkins. These seasonal projects bring festive energy to the club and showcase students’ diverse talents. Beyond individual projects, the club also undertakes community outreach initiatives. “Last year, we made cards for veterans and took them to the VA hospital,” Mrs. Cometto recalls. “We always try to do some kind of community outreach project.”
The Art Club’s annual field trip to the Albright-Knox Art Gallery is a highlight, offering students inspiration and a chance to see renowned works in person.
For anyone looking to try new art forms, make friends, and contribute to the community, Alden High School’s Art Club is an inviting and inspiring option. As Mrs. Cometto emphasizes, “I feel like anybody can make art.” The club embodies this belief, making it a place for all students to explore creativity and make lasting memories.
