Alden High School recently highlighted the dedication and hard work of its cafeteria staff, featuring cook manager Trish Jakubowski, whose 30 years of service have made her a familiar and valued presence in the school community.
Starting as a part of the cafeteria team decades ago, Trish stepped into the cook manager role after the previous manager’s departure. At first, she wasn’t sure if the position was the right fit, but it quickly became a passion. “I love it,” she shared. “It’s one of the best times ever. I love cooking, making new foods, and seeing the students’ reactions when they try something fresh.”
Trish’s favorite meals to prepare are the ones made from scratch. From cooking taco meat with her signature seasoning to crafting homemade soups, she takes pride in adding a personal touch to every dish. Upcoming additions to the menu include a homemade chicken and shallot bowl, a new breakfast sandwich on flatbread, and Greek-inspired flatbread sandwiches. Taco dishes remain a favorite, and chicken fingers are always a hit among students.
While Trish loves her job, she hopes for more mindfulness in the lunch line. “If everyone paid attention and told the servers what they want instead of being on their phones, it would help a lot,” she said. Keeping the line moving ensures students have enough time to eat and enjoy their free period with friends.
Trish’s commitment to her role and her passion for cooking have made her an integral part of the Alden High School community. Her efforts to bring variety and quality to the cafeteria menu reflect her care for the students, one homemade meal at a time.
