Alden Track Athletes Tackle Depew Pent and Steeple Meet

Thursday, May 12 a handful of members of the Alden Track and Field team made the trip to Depew for the annual pentathlon and steeplechase meet. This grueling athletic event only has two events athletes can participate in, the steeplechase and pentathlon. The steeplechase is an event in which participants have to jump over 4 steeples and one water trap, for 3000 meters for the boys and 2000 for the girls. In the pentathlon, athletes must compete in 5 different events, 110 hurdles, shot put, long jump, high jump, and the 1500 meter run for the boys and 800 for the girls.
Competing in the steeplechase for the girls, was Savannah Warner, and Allison Bennett. Warner finished 6th out of 35 with a time of 8:05.8 and Bennett finished 24th with a time of 8:52.9. For the boys, Jordan Servos finished with a time of 11:57.8 and Jake Fusco with a 13:56.8.
In the pentathlon, for the girls, competing was Hailey Rospierski and Madison Strecula. Rospierski finished the day at second out of twenty with 2802 points. She finished the 800 in 3:08 and threw 27 ft in shot put. In the 100 hurdles she finished at 15.24 coming in second. At long jump she jumped 15 1/2 ft and in high jump, cleared 5 ft 3 in. Strecula finished 12th with a 800 time of 3:15.54 and in the 100 hurdles a 17.59. In shot put she threw for 22 ft 2 in. She jumped 14 ft in long jump and cleared 4 ft 8 in in high jump.
For the boys, Evan Fix, and Raymond Boucher competed. Boucher 8th out of 26 and Fix took 23rd. Boucher had a 1500 time of 4:32 finishing second and a 110 hurdles time of 18.48. Boucher threw 27 ft in shot put and jumped 17 ft. Finally he cleared a high jump height of 5 ft 2 in. Fix ran a 1500 time of 6:39 and a 110 hurdles of 21.02. Fix threw 35 ft 4 in and jumped 14 ft. In high jump he cleared a height of 4 ft 8 in.
