Prom Safety

Allissa Wery

The time is here and prom is under two weeks away here at Alden High School and the excitement continues to grow. Even though prom is the highlight of junior and senior year, it is still necessary to keep in mind the importance of before and after prom safety. It all comes down to the decisions we make, good or bad. Either way we live with the consequences of our choices for the rest of our life. Anything, in the blink of a eye, could significantly change the rest of your life; for you and your friends. Don’t be the person to have responsibility of injuring or taking anyone’s life.

Prom season is a very exciting time for upperclassman throughout all high schools. Our school along with many others participate in a school wide mandatory safety meeting to ensure the safety of students attending prom. It is important that the students are aware and educated on the possible consequences of their careless and poor decisions. This meeting gives students the opportunity to see some consequences that are possible if the wrong choice is made. There are approximately over 4,000 injuries or deaths due to terrible choices among young adults. The number decreases every year in effect of students safety being brought to attention nationwide.

The most important and the biggest issue among young teens is the amount of underage drinking and driving. This issue is one of the long lasting issues that is getting better but remains as the top causes for accidents and injuries. You can always have fun without doing underage or illegal things. We hope that students agree with this statement and make safe and smart choices on the night of prom. 66% of teen driver deaths occur with involving alcohol. don’t let that be you or any of your friends. Make good, healthy decisions and do not drink and drive, do not be afraid to say no, and do not fall for the peer pressure. Alden’s staff wishes the best to all of the students attending prom and that everyone enjoys their prom night. Please stay safe!
