Heat Up the Holidays
December 19, 2017
The first ever “Heat Up the Holidays” was hosted at the High School Wednesday, December 20th. Students were able to enjoy a bonfire, games, snack, music, and even a Christmas movie. Ticket sales began last week during lunches and continued up until the 20th. A fee of $5, or a new blanket, was charged during pre -ale or at the event. All of the proceeds will be donated to the Patrick Gallivan Blanket Drive to help Children’s Hospital.
The night exceeded all expectations. Over 100 students attended the fire and movie night. Kids played games of Kan Jam set up in the parking lot, danced to Christmas music, and toasted by the fire. The event brought in $400 and 24 blankets that will be donated to the Patrick Gallivan Blanket Drive. Heat Up the Holidays was planned and ran by a group from Mr. Domino’s Leadership class. The girls worked tirelessly for 2 months planning everything. In order to get the word out, the girls contacted Mr. Gallivan’s representative, Mitch Martin. They remained in touch with him throughout the process. The whole leadership class was split into groups and given the task of starting a new project, event, or activity that will benefit Alden High School. Each group has an exciting project planned for this semester. The girls chose to do “Heat Up the Holidays” to spread school spirit and Christmas cheer. Hopefully this event will be continued throughout the years and promote holiday cheer and spirit.
