Bulldogs Dominate Pioneer 35-0
Bulldogs, powered by Grant’s 200 yard performance notch first victory…
September 9, 2015
On October 30th, 2014 the Alden Bulldog Football team walked off the field in Pioneer after losing the Class B consolation bowl to Dunkirk, capping of a underwhelming 4-5 season. January 5, 2015 with the cold winter weather keeping everyone home nice and cozy, the Bulldogs met in the high school weight room for the start of their new off season weight lifting program spear headed by Ben Woods of STA Sports Performance. From that point on every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday the Bulldogs trained hard in hopes of a chance to play in the Sectional Championship at Ralph Wilson Stadium again. Their hard work and determination had its first payoff on Friday, September 4 when they walked off the field victorious after their dominating 35-0 win over Pioneer.
The Bulldogs kicked off to Pioneer to start the game and the instant the ball was snapped for the first play by Pioneer the defense was as solid as a brick wall. The drive was quickly killed and Senior running back Lyle Grant found the end zone after only 6 plays. The Panthers briefly got the ball again but the Bulldogs dog pound defense wasn’t letting them get anywhere. After another stop, Christian Snell scored from two yards out.
Come half time the boys were up 21-0 but still determined to keep the pedal to the floor. Grant slipped in one more touchdown for good measure, as did senior AJ Patterson. In what was a total team effort, the Bulldog defense managed to protect the shutout despite a late rush by the Panthers.
It was a well-played game by the whole team and was a good showcase of the teams potential this year. Sophomore kicker Riley Pastuzynski sent the ball hurdling down the field on every kick off, sometimes sending it straight out the back end zone. Sophomore Quarterback, Bryan Cybulski made three impressive throws to senior tight end Brendan Weierheiser . Zach Loper notched 7 tackles, caused and recovered one fumble and added 41 yards on the ground rushing. Albion travels to face the Bulldog next on Friday September 11th. Come out and support your Bulldogs as they open league play.
