Jon Koch, Sports Reporter

Jonathan “Jon” Koch is a dedicated athlete and new member of WACS who brings his passion for sports and a laid-back personality to the halls of Alden High School. As a two-sport athlete, Jon plays a pivotal role on the football team, protecting the quarterback at left tackle and making key defensive stops. He’s also a varsity track and field thrower, where his strength shines. Known for his love of football, video games, and hanging out with friends, Jon is always up for a challenge, whether on the field or in a game.

Jon’s describes his two dogs, stating: “We have a bloodhound; she’s massive, big and old. And the other dog, Kawa, is a Great Dane. She’s huge. When she stands up, she’s like 7 feet tall. She’s scary.”

In school, Jon gravitates toward history as his favorite subject. “I just like history, it’s pretty interesting,” he says. He gives a shoutout to his past history teachers, Mr. Sigerson and Ms. Kornacki, describing them as “pretty cool” and making the class even more enjoyable.

Looking ahead, Jon hopes to continue his football career at the collegiate level, with dreams of playing Division 1. “After high school, hopefully I play some college football, whether that be D3 or D1, hopefully D1,” he says. As for a future career, Jon is considering sports medicine, with aspirations of becoming either a doctor or a physical therapist.

When it comes to favorite football memories, Jon takes it back to his Little League days. “It was a hot 90-degree day out in Attica. I finally got put in as running back and broke off a 60-yard touchdown. It was my first touchdown that I can remember, and I was so gassed afterward I had to sit out the next two drives,” he recalls with a smile.

For inspiration on the field, Jon looks to J.J. Watt, a player known for his relentless style. “J.J. Watt, he was just an animal. The way he played the game—aggressive and relentless—that’s something that motivates me. That guy, crazy,” Jon says, clearly admiring Watt’s drive.

Jonathan Koch’s balance of athletic talent, dedication to school, and a good sense of humor make him a standout student at Alden High, and his bright future is sure to continue reflecting his hard work and passion.
