Olivia Hyna, a junior at Alden High School, has a clear goal for her future: becoming a high school English teacher. Her love for English drives her to excel in her favorite class as she prepares for a career dedicated to inspiring others. “I think I’m most passionate about English because I want to be a teacher when I grow up,” Olivia explains. “I just try to do my best in English, make sure I’m getting my grades up so I can hopefully be that in my future.”
This school year has been both exciting and challenging for Olivia. As a junior, she feels the pressure of building a strong college resume. “I’m kind of stressed out a little bit,” she admits. “I’ve been trying to join clubs so I can get a good college resume and hopefully go to a good college.” One of her favorite activities is the Future Teachers of America Club, where she can connect with others who share her career aspirations.
Outside of academics, Olivia enjoys baking and spending time with her large family of seven siblings. Her love for baking adds a sweet touch to her busy life, giving her a way to relax and share her creations with loved ones.
Olivia’s taste in entertainment is just as diverse as her interests. A fan of romance and musicals, she loves watching rom-coms like The Notebook and films like High School Musical. She also enjoys mystery shows, with Riverdale currently on her watchlist. When it comes to music, Olivia’s playlist features everything from Taylor Swift to Sabrina Carpenter. “I’m really into basic white girl music,” she jokes, but her favorite artist right now is Luke Bryan. “His songs are just kind of a vibe for me recently, and I can relate to some of them.”
If Olivia could create her own class, she would combine two of her interests: books and movies. “I think it would be about a book based on a movie because I just feel like those are the best ones,” she says. She also loves creative spirit days at school, recalling Bikers vs. Surfers day, inspired by Teen Beach Movie, as one of her favorites.
With her dedication to academics, passion for English, and involvement in school activities, Olivia Hyna is making the most of her junior year at Alden High School, setting the stage for a bright future.
