As the 2024 school year kicks off, Alden High School is buzzing with excitement. Alongside the new class of freshmen, the hallways are also home to three brand-new teachers, bringing fresh energy and expertise to the school. Let’s take a closer look at who they are and what they’re excited to bring to Alden.
Ms. Marchitte – Pre-Algebra & Algebra 1
Ms. Marchitte joins Alden as the new Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 teacher. Her journey to teaching was inspired by her experience in coaching:
“I started coaching track and field, and I realized I really enjoyed working with students. Coaching and teaching have a lot in common, and that’s what drew me to education.”
Ms. Marchitte is excited to build strong connections with her students. A fun fact about her? She competed in D1 track and field throughout college.
Ms. Kuma – Earth Science & Physics
Ms. Kuma brings her love for science to the classroom, teaching Earth Science, Physics, and various science labs. Although this is her ninth year of teaching, her path to education initially leaned toward counseling.
“At one point, I considered becoming a counselor because I love helping people through challenges, but teaching felt like a way to do that while also sharing my passion for science.”
In addition to teaching, Ms. Kuma also brings a rich enthusiasm for working with students in creative ways.
Mrs. Nieman – Band & Chorus
A familiar face to many in the district, Mrs. Nieman is starting her first year at the high school after 25 years of teaching across various Alden schools.
“I’ve been in almost every building in Alden, but I’m especially excited to be here at the high school. The students here are so creative and enthusiastic—it’s a different kind of energy.”
Besides her passion for music, Mrs. Nieman is also a professional voice actor. You might even spot her in the background of an episode of Mr. and Mrs. Smith on Amazon Prime.
These new teachers are already making an impact, and the Alden High community is thrilled to welcome them. With their diverse backgrounds and passions, they’re sure to inspire students both inside and outside the classroom.
