This month, Alden High School is participating in the annual Huddle for Hunger competition, where students and community members are coming together to fight food insecurity. In a video released this week, the organizers provided key details about the challenge, encouraging everyone to get involved.
Donations made during the first two weeks of September will go toward the Huddle for Hunger competition. The donations made throughout the rest of the month will be sent directly to the Alden Food Bank, ensuring they stay local and help families in need right here in Alden.
Ava Gauld, Alden HS’ peer wellness secretary, explained the importance of the initiative, stating, “Huddle for Hunger is so important because it’s all about giving back to the community—helping children, families, and schools in need of food.” Peer wellness advisor, Mrs. Hiller, emphasized that the challenge makes it easy for anyone to contribute, whether at home sporting events or on weekends at the local Tops. A big yellow school bus will be stationed outside the store, ready to collect donations.
The video highlighted the significant role that Feedmore plays in the region, helping families across Buffalo and Western New York. However, this year, Alden’s challenge includes a community focus, with a portion of the donations remaining in Alden to help local families.
The Bills’ Huddle for Hunger competition has a tight deadline, with the goal of collecting all donations by September 17th. Due to the short turnaround time, the video emphasized the need for urgent action, calling on the community to get involved and help meet the challenge.
