Cole Ertel, a dedicated and high-achieving senior at Alden High School, has earned the prestigious honor of being named a Commended Student by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. This recognition celebrates Cole’s academic excellence and remarkable performance on the PSAT, placing him among the top students across the nation.
Cole qualified for this commendation with an impressive score of 1,320, including a 760 in English and a 560 in Math. His exceptional performance places him as the only senior from Alden’s Class of 2025 to receive this honor and among the 34,000 students nationwide being recognized for their academic achievements.
When asked what motivates him to put in the hard work and dedication required for such achievements, Cole shared his commitment to setting himself up for future success. “I think it’s really important for me to always do my best,” Cole reflected, demonstrating the mindset that has fueled his journey through high school.
Cole also had some advice for younger students, particularly freshmen. “One of the biggest things I’d tell my ninth-grade self is to stay on the ball. Everything you do in high school really matters. Looking back, there are things I wish I’d done differently,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of consistency and focus throughout high school.
Congratulations to Cole Ertel on this well-deserved recognition! His hard work, focus, and commitment to excellence are qualities that Alden High School is proud to celebrate.
