Alden Elementary Art students studied the life and works of Henri Rousseau (1844-1910), who is considered by many to be one of the greatest self-taught artists of all time. Rousseau is best known for his paintings of jungle scenes which he created from his imagination and his visits to the botanical gardens and zoos of France. Each grade level took a different approach in their Rousseau-inspired artworks. Kindergarten Artists read the Balinese folktale, Go to Sleep, Gecko!, then created these wonderful nighttime mixed media artworks.
