Lyle Grant Places 2nd in Wrestling States
February 29, 2016
Lyle Grant, a senior at Alden High School, is the second person in Alden history to place at wrestling states, the only other being his coach.
During the first match at states, Lyle was in the 7th seed, which means there were six people expected to do better than him. He defied these odds by pinning a wrestler from New York City. This accomplishment was even more significant because it was his 100th pin in his high school career.
In the quarterfinals, Lyle wrestled the 2nd seed and was losing the match by one with little time left. He was able to score a takedown on his opponent in the final 3 seconds of the match, claiming victory by one.
He was able to pin his opponent from Alexander in the last second of the semi finals after already possessing a 7-1 lead. The finals brought a very close loss to the returning two-time state champion who is ranked 10th in the nation, resulting in Lyle proudly bringing home the second place title.
