Our district has been very fortunate to see major improvements this year in all buildings. Most recently, this is seen at the Intermediate/Middle School campus. If you’ve driven down Crittenden Road in Alden since Friday, you may have noticed a temporary facade was installed within 48 hours on the playground side of the 1951 building.

Unknown-5WACS News has confirmed that the work being completed at the bus entrance of the Intermediate School is part of the current year capital outlay project, which is included as part of the district’s 2015-16 general fund operating budget.  The cost of the project will be approximately $100,000 and Alden CSD will receive approximately 80% of the cost back in Building Aid the following year.

Unknown-6The scope of work includes the replacement of two garage doors at the Middle/Intermediate School facility (already completed) and the replacement of the metal frame glazing system and doors at the Intermediate School bus entrance. The current entrance is rusting significantly and is not well insulated.  Contractors will be installing new doors and replacing the old metal panels with glass windows.  The new system will be more energy efficient and should provide more sunlight in the buildings to help make it more welcoming to our students and guests.  It should be a very noticeable improvement.

Over the weekend, the contractors installed temporary protection of the entrance to start the removal and replacement of the metal frame glazing system and doors.  Administration anticipates that the work will be completed by the end of March. The plan is to replace the other metal frame glazing system entrance on Crittenden Road as part of the 2016-17 budget.
