HS Cafeteria Improvements Begin
March 26, 2016
Alden High School students may be a bit surprised when they walk into the cafeteria for lunch on Tuesday. Over the recess, contractors began the first part of renovations to the cafeteria. As you may remember from the original ‘Renovations 2014’ plan, the cafeteria and serving line space at the high school is in disrepair. Over the Summer, contractors will work to reconfigure the serving line to improve traffic flow and update a lot of the non-functioning and outdated food service equipment. Another part to this work is to replace the worn out, cracked, and unleveled tile flooring.
Because of the vast amount of work being done this Summer that we reported on last week, district administrators said the contractors needed to remove the tiles early to stay on schedule at the end of the school year. Records show that Metro Contracting & Environmental, Inc. removed the following asbestos containing materials:
- Approximately 4,260 SF Floor Tile & Mastic
- Approximately 2,205 SF Vinyl Floor Tile
- Approximately 6 SF Window Glazing Compound
- Approximately 6 SF Clock/Speaker Box Mastic
- Approximately 5 SF Door Glazing Compound
The work was done in a completely sealed off area and Air monitoring services were provided by Stohl Environmental.
The new flooring will be installed during the rest of the renovation work over the Summer. WACS News will bring you the latest in Renovations 2014 updates as they become available.

Why did they remove it halfway through the year. They should just leave the cement and not put tiles down again.

I think that it is really cool that we are getting a new cafeteria floor. It was a huge surprise when we walked into the lunch room without its tiles.

I am glad that I school is improving but I think that our cafeteria school floor looks scary. It is disturbing looking. But at least it will be better next year.
