Powderpuff Game Results
October 17, 2016
The girls of Alden High School tackled the 2016 homecoming week by participating in the annual powderpuff game. The match up on September 29th included the freshmen/senior team coached by Mr. Eggink and Mrs. Tanner vs. the sophomore/junior team lead by Mrs. Williams and Mr. Krysczuk. Despite the rainy and cold Autumn weather, the crowd turn out was bigger and better than ever. After the pep-rally, the girls kicked off in a competitive, intense matter, and there began the memorable 2016 powderpuff game. Leading the sophomore/junior teams’ offense was junior running back Sydney Thompson scoring 14 out of the total 21 points. The other touchdown was scored by sophomore Jaime Bennett. Extra points were scored by junior Sara O’Connor whose soccer skills proved their worth. Defensively, Rachael Kueker and Maddy Gadd put up a strong line against the freshmen/senior team. On the other hand, the freshmen/senior team was ensured to hand senior running back Savannah Warner the ball every chance they could. It was hard to stop her speed and agility which resulted in the freshman/senior first and only touchdown of the night. Another soccer star, Grace Pastuszynski kicked the extra point for her team. Defensively, some of the few seniors who decided to participate this year, Anne Kocher, Katie Schadt, Maggie Arnold, and Cailyn Bennett, did their part to attack the opposing teams’ flags. Throughout the game, the audience was very entertained by the Varsity football boy announcers. In the end the sophomore/junior team came out on top with a 21-7 victory. It was a heartbreaking loss mostly for the seniors, who wish they could play one last football game with a winning result. Join the girls next year in the 2017 homecoming powderpuff game!
