Boys Varsity Soccer Defeats Tonawanda in a Rematch 4-2!!!

Matthew Schuh, Reporter

The Boys Varsity Soccer Team showed their potential in a critical Division IV win over rival Tonawanda on October 4th. Earlier this season, Tonawanda handed Alden their first loss (2-3) of the season and the Bulldogs were determined to redeem themselves on their home field.  Alden came out strong at set the tone as they displayed confidence in their possession ability from defensive wing backs Adam Wood and Dominic Sabia up through Attacking Mid-fielders Max Penke, Brad Kibler, and Andrew Long.  The center back duo of Owen Kissell and Zachary Long along with holding mid-fielders Matt Schuh, Ashton Wilson, and Conrad Boucher controlled the center of the field.  Center attacking mid-fielder Nate Nuwer owned the air as he won every 50/50 free ball battle to take over possession.

Jeremy Jeziorski did his job at striker as he put the ball in the back of the net in the 10th minute to get the scoring going. Alden dominated play, but ended the first half with a 1-0 lead. Andrew Long found the goal in the 60th minute off a pass from Adam Wood.  Jeziorski also assisted on later goals from Brad Kibler (65th) and Nate Nuwer (70th) which completely broke the Warrior’s spirit despite their late goals which led to the 4-2 win for the Bulldogs.

The boys improved their overall record to 11-3 (6-2 in division) which should lock them into 2nd place in Division IV.  Beating the Warriors also earns Power Points for the Sectional 6 Tournament seeding and moved the team to #5 in the B1 bracket to guarantee an Alden home game for the Sectional Pre-Quarter Finals on Tuesday, October 18th.  Mark your calendar and come support our hardworking team.
