Varsity Football Ends Season in a Close One
November 15, 2016
The Alden Varsity Bulldogs ranked 6th in Class B and took a two hour bus ride to face the 3rd ranked Olean Huskies. The weather conditions were in no one’s favor, the field has two inches of rain and was covered in mud from a submerged baseball field. The Bulldogs found themselves in a great position to win the game with a of score 17-14. However, the Olean Huskies were able to get a late score to take a 21-17 lead and the Bulldogs were unsuccessful going four and out in the last drive of the game.
“No matter what, every day is a great day to be an Alden Bulldog. These kids refuse to give in as they pave the way for lots of wins in life.” Head Coach, Rob Currin said shortly after the loss.
This makes Alden’s record 5-3. They will play Burgard later this week in a matchup game. Alden had to face a lot of adversity and hardships to get to where they ended. Alden was predicted to come in 3rd in Class B East and fall just short of playoffs after graduating a significant number of seniors last year. The team came together to step up and change the opinions of the doubters.
The Bulldogs are lucky to get another crack at another opponent and will travel to Riverside to face Burgard for a consolation game on Wednesday, October 26th. Come support the Bulldogs and the seniors as most of them put the pads on for one last time. Game time is 7:00 P.M. Go Bulldogs!
