On Saturday, January 14th, the St. John’s Youth Group sponsored “Polish Night” at St. John’s Church/School. The event started out with a Polka Mass at 4:00pm followed by lively polka music and dancing in the gym. The band “Special Delivery” played throughout the night, and polka lessons were available for those unfamiliar with the dance. In addition, there was a performance by the Polish Heritage Dancers of WNY with traditional Polish costumes, folk dances, and songs. The group featured children and adults of all ages. Furthermore, the night featured a basket raffle and a 50/50 drawing.

There was also delicious homemade Polish food available, such as kielbasa, fried bologna and onion sandwiches, lazy pierogi, and golabki soup. For dessert, guests had a choice of cheesecake or nalesniki crepes.

The space was decorated with red and white balloons, which are the colors of the Polish flag. Many attendees were also decked in t-shirts with slogans demonstrating their Polish pride.

All of the proceeds from the event will benefit the St. John’s Youth Group, which consists of many students from Alden. Numerous youth group members helped out at Polish Night. In particular, most of the funds will go towards their trip to Camp Covecrest this summer. They have the opportunity to bring ten high school youth to the camp near Altlanta, Georgia from July 31-August 5, 2017.

Overall, the event was a great way to bring the community together to celebrate Polish heritage and culture.
