Middle School “All-Aboard” for Polar Express Day
December 11, 2017
Alden Middle School’s student leaders have been chugging along planning a Polar Express Day for their school. The BSAT (Building and Student Achievement Team) has been working hard this year to make the last day of school before Christmas break a fun and relaxed day. The BSAT focuses on promoting school spirit and strong leadership qualities by teaming a group of dedicated students with a group of hard working staff members to share ideas on how the Middle School can improve academically and as a student body.
I sat down with the three students who are in charge of this new event and they told me all of the festivities scheduled for the day. In classic Polar Express fashion, hot chocolate will be served to every classroom by students. After they get their festive drinks, the school will be invited to watch the movie while cozied up in their pajamas. Following the movie, students will be split up into smaller groups to participate in Christmas-themed games and activities such as ornament decorating, a relay race, cookie making (and eating), and a photo booth. There will even be a game room set up for more fun activities throughout the day.
Isabelle explained that they chose this itinerary to have a relaxed and fun day before break all while spreading Christmas cheer. This event is designed to include all students and make everyone feel welcome. The BSAT kids really impressed me with their creative ideas and leadership skills, especially for being in only 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.
