On Friday October 2, 2015 the Medina Mustangs stepped off the bus in Alden to face the Bulldogs in their homecoming game. The game was reminiscent of the opening game versus Pioneer which also had a 35-0 Bulldog final score. The team is now 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the league. A win next week against visiting East Aurora/Holland would give the Bulldogs the B East division title outright.

Alden shut Medina down on their first drive after the kick off setting the tone for another monstrous defensive game. Alden capped off their first offensive drive with a 6 yard rushing touchdown by running back Zach Loper.  Loper slipped in again in the first half with 18 yard touchdown run, putting the Bulldogs up by a score of 14-0.  Bryan Cybulski found Jordan Stockweather in the end zone for the fourth time this season on a 25 yard pass. The fate of the Mustangs was sealed in the third quarter when Senior tailback, Lyle Grant scored on runs of 41 and 48 yards.

Alden’s defense seemed to get better as the night went on.  Alden’s dominance on the defensive side of the ball continued as they only allowed 86 yards rushing and not one yard passing. Senior defensive end Jordan Stockweather dominated, notching two sacks and four tackles, killing many of the Mustangs’ drives and spirits. AJ Patterson led the team in tackles with five as he did his part to keep the Mustangs in the stable. The Bulldogs forced three fumbles recovered by Zach Loper, Evan Fix, and Andrew Chowaniec, giving Alden some extra chances on offense.

Offensively, Alden had a bit of a change up on their normal playing style. Lyle Grant still got 133 rushing yards and four out of their five touchdowns were from rushes. But what was different about this game was the astonishing success of the Bulldogs’ pass game. Up until this point in the season Coach Rob Currin hadn’t felt much of a need to pass the ball with three year veteran Grant carrying the ball. But with the hit or miss success of their run game they started to get the ball in the air and with  success. Sophomore Quarterback Bryan Cybulski completed 8 passes on 11 attempts for 112 yards and had a 73% completion rate. He had no interceptions and his offensive line protected him well. Senior Brendan Weierheiser continued to bail the Bulldogs out on offense catching the ball three times in crucial situations with an average of 14 yards per catch. Next Friday promises to be a big one in Alden Bulldog Nation. Be sure to come out and support your Bulldogs.
