Learn More About Underrated Clubs at AHS

Key club, Scholastic Bowl, Donate Life, Model UN, Friends of the Planet? I bet you’ve heard of some of these clubs, but you may not know what some of them do.

Even though they go unnoticed, these clubs play a huge role in students’ lives. Let’s dive deeper into what some of these clubs are and what they do.

Friends of the Planet and Scholastic Bowl are clubs open to all students at Alden High School. Students involved in these clubs work very hard and are involved in their club even if what they are doing goes unnoticed by most.

The point of Friends of the Planet, said advisor Ms. Blendowski, is “to have students be more aware of what’s going on in the world regarding recycling, upcycling, trying to get rid of things that are plastic bound.”

“We have a good community of people who want to come in and try and better themselves and better the planet.”

Friends of the Planet is dedicated to teaching students about protecting our environment and thinking carefully about how we could be saving our planet. Making their peers aware of what is going on in the world around them can be very hard, but these students are getting it done!

Scholastic Bowl is another club that often goes unnoticed at school. This club is very similar to the show “Jeopardy.” Students who are a part of this club go to game show-like competitions where they will compete against other students to answer trivia questions. The amount of time put into this club is very impressive and deserves more recognition than it gets.

“It’s a fun thing to do to meet people,” said Scholastic Bowl President Hannah Cuthbertson. “You don’t have to be super-smart; you just have to have a willingness to come and contribute some of the stuff in your head.”

For more information about Friends of the Planet, Scholastic Bowl, or any club that you may want to be involved in, you can go to the club calendar or reach out to any of the advisors of the clubs via email.
