On March 27th, members of Alden High School’s Prism Club attended the GLYS (Gay & Lesbian Youth Services) Youth Leadership Conference, an event dedicated to fostering a safe, supportive, and affirming environment for LGBTQ+ youth.
Through interactive games, creative crafts, and engaging activities, students had the opportunity to explore their identities while building connections with peers. The conference emphasized education, self-expression, and the importance of community support.
GLYS plays a crucial role in providing LGBTQ+ youth with positive role models and safe spaces where they can develop confidence and a sense of belonging. By encouraging self-esteem and integration into the broader community, the organization helps young people gain a deeper understanding of themselves through shared experiences and discussions.
To conclude the day’s inspiring events, students and staff enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime experience—a vibrant and empowering drag show, celebrating diversity, individuality, and self-expression. The conference left attendees with lasting memories and a stronger sense of pride in their identities.
