Officer Ashley Piel, known to some as Deputy Piel, has been Alden High School’s School Resource Officer for the past ten years. During her time at the school, she has greeted students with a smile each morning, ensured safety with professionalism and compassion, and built strong relationships with students and staff alike.
“I love working with you guys — the students and the staff,” Officer Piel says. “You’re hilarious. The things you come up with make me laugh every day, and that’s been by far my favorite part.” She’s known not only for her dedication but also for her warm personality and sense of humor. Students remember her fondly, with one noting, “She’s super funny and helps with literally everything. She even took me to McDonald’s when I was upset — she’s just a fun person to be around.”
A proud member of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, Officer Piel joined the school resource officer program after working in several districts. “I’ve been in Alden for about 10 years, and I love it — I like to call it home base,” she says. While her time as SRO is coming to a close, she’s excited about her new opportunity within the Sheriff’s Office that will allow her to continue serving the Alden community.
Officer Piel is also known for bringing comfort to students through her therapy dog, Kojack. “We’re both going to miss you guys very much,” she says. She leaves a lasting message for students: “Never, ever give up. Life’s going to get super hard, and there will be days you don’t want to get out of bed. You just have to put one foot in front of the other and give it a try.”
With her humor, dedication, and caring heart, Officer Ashley Piel has made a lasting impact on Alden High School — and her lessons will resonate with students for years to come.
