Alden High School welcomes a new School Resource Officer this year: Deputy John Burdzy. Stepping into the role previously held by Officer Ashley Piel, he brings a wealth of military and law enforcement experience, along with a fresh perspective to the position.
“I’m here for you guys — for your safety and as a resource you can use,” Deputy Burdzy says. “If there’s anything that doesn’t feel safe, feel free to come by my office. My door’s always open.” Known for being friendly and approachable, he’s already earned a reputation as “super chill” among students.
Although this is his first experience working in a school setting, Deputy Burdzy has four years of law enforcement experience and is a father of two young children. He’s eager to connect with students and support them both inside and outside the classroom. “I want to sit down with students, talk it out, see what’s going on, and be there to figure things out together,” he explains.
Outside the office, Deputy Burdzy has been getting involved in school events, attending football games, track meets, and other activities. A former hockey player, he looks forward to building relationships and being an active part of the school community.
With his dedication, approachability, and commitment to student safety, Deputy John Burdzy is ready to continue the legacy of protecting and supporting Alden High School. His advice to students? “Bulldogs never, ever give up.”
