On May 9 the Alden Boys and Girls Track team traveled to Pembroke High School for the annual Pembroke Invitational. Overall Alden had outstanding scores from both the boys and girls teams, placing countless athletes on the medal stand and many more shortly behind. Both teams had many PR’s as they look towards the post season which includes ECIC’s, sectionals, and then states. The team’s next opportunity to perform and show their talent and abilities will be on Tuesday May 10 at East Aurora.

The guys team performed exceptionally with many athletes taking first and second place. Starting off, in the 1600 Adam Czech and Bobby Adams took second and third with times of 4:54.60 and 5:02.90 respectively. In the 3200, Jordan Servos finished with a time of 11:08.10 taking 4th. In the 100 meter dash, Christian Snell took third with a time of 11.10.  In the 200 meter dash, Charlie Varshay and Adam Elis took 4th and 5th at times of 24.00 and 24.10 each. Varshay was also the 400 meter dash champion with a time of 53.40 with Nate Nuwer following behind at third with a 54.30. In the 800 meter Ray Boucher finished out at second with a 2:12.20 and Adam Czech in third at a 2:15.

In the field the guys performed just as impressively. In the long jump, Josh Dudley took third with a distance of 18 ft 3in. At triple jump, Jacob Fusco and Josh Dudely took 4th and 5th with leaps of 37 ft 9in and 36 ft 6in respectively. Manny Bridgers took first in high jump with a height of 5 ft 10in and Ray Boucher in second with 5 ft 6in. At pole vault Mike Handley took second with a vault of 10 ft 9in. In shot put Leyton “The Moose” Miner continued his section wide dominance of shot put with a throw of 48 ft 2 in. Evan Fix also took fourth with a distance of 35ft. In discus Colin Skowronski took third with 116 ft 7in.

The girls team also ended the day with a variety of impressive scores. In the 100 meter hurdles, state champion Hailey Rospierski once again took first with a 15.30. Other state contender, Sara Augustine, took second in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.70. For the 1500, Sarah Golas and Jaci Wallace took third and fourth with times of 5:17 and 5:28. In the 3000 meter, Mallory Ronan finished third at a time of 11:49.  Savannah Warner took second in the 400 meter dash at a 1:02.70. Warner also took first in the 800 meter run with a 2:28 and Becky Kron followed shortly behind with a 2:30.70 ending at second.

In the field the girls also held their ground with a variety of impressive scores. At long jump, Cookie Altieri took second with a leap of 15ft 5 in. In triple jump, Kayla Kopinski took fifth at 30 ft 9in and over in high jump Altieri finished 4th at 4ft 6in and Rospierski was the champion at 5ft 4in. Sara O’Connor took second in pole vault with a height of 8 ft 6in. At the shot put ring, Alex Motz took third with a throw of 31 ft 3in, and in disc had a monstrous PR of 105 ft 10in, taking first.
