Two new courses in the High School Technology Department are filling student demand for exposure to learning opportunities that help identify their aptitudes in various skilled trades. The courses also develop skills that students will use in their own homes as adults. The courses are ½ credit each and are designed as foundational courses. Forty-Nine (49) students are enrolled in “Basic Electricity” where they explore different electrical components and their use in simple circuits. Students also learn about residential and commercial wiring schemes, component identification, and their function in a circuit. Students will practice with a variety of test equipment and explore digital electronics and programmable controls.

“Residential Structures” has thirty-two (32) students enrolled this year to experiment in electrical wiring, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, and HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning).  There will be an introduction to architecture, structural design, and floor plans with computer aided design software. By the end of the course, students will have the skills to plan a minor home renovation project and accomplish home improvement tasks at a novice level.
