With the holidays right around the corner, Alden Primary’s PTO hosts an annual event giving kindergarten, first and second grade students the opportunity to purchase affordable gifts for their family.

The Merry Moose Shop ran for two full days; Wednesday, December 7th and Thursday, December 8th from 9:15 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. Each class had a specific time scheduled for shopping. Allissa and I were able to be there during Mrs. Stoltman and Mrs Whiteford’s first grade class, Mrs. Pletscher and Mrs. Lander’s kindergarten class, and Mrs. Speranza’s kindergarten class. The students were extremely excited to shop on their own for the family members.

This event has been an annual occurrence since the late 1960’s, early 1970’s. After talking with PTO President, Stephenie Cotton, she says,” It has been a tradition in Alden for as long as anyone could remember.”

Allissa and I asked why they hold this event and the PTO said, they are involved in a holiday shop every year because of the joy in the children’s faces. The excitement in the eyes of the children as they choose gifts for their adored family members is extremely rewarding. There are numerous different options each child has to choose from. The PTO hand-picks each item that is available. Their supplier is a local business called Ray Gay Sales. Multiple items have titles such as Dad, Mom, Grandma, Grandpa, Brother, or Sister. The Merry Moose Holiday shop’s most popular items include, mugs, ties, and decorative items. The price for these gifts range from $1.00 to $5.00.

With the continued support of parent volunteers, this event is sure to be enjoyed for generations to come. Allissa and I were on the scene for this and heres a quick recap in the video above!
