Voting Qualifications for the Annual Budget Vote

Sean Mahaney, News Producer

The annual budget vote for the Alden School District (2017-2018) is coming very soon. The voting polls will be open at the Alden High School in the Cafeteria from 6:00am to 9:00pm on Tuesday May 16, 2017.

While it is important to get out and vote there are some requirements. For one you must be at least 18 years old by the time Election Day arrives. Also you must be a resident of the Alden Central School District for thirty days.

It is of great importance that you get out and vote. While this may just affect a School District and not the whole world it is really your duty to vote. Your tax dollars are going to a great cause. The new Alden School Renovations that began in 2014 is now coming to a close in its third phase, ending with a bang. There are four different propositions that will be decided upon: adopting a budget of $34,379,776 with no tax levy increase, extra buses being purchased, purchase of equipment for Building and Grounds, and the establishment of a Capital Reserve Fund. These four propositions may sound like every day politics mixed with business, but these benefits will positively affect the School in huge ways. Questions to be pondered are why not buy extra buses for more students, why not purchase more newer equipment to help replace the older equipment, why not establish a Capital Reserve Fund, and most importantly why not these improvements for no tax increase?

Do your American duty and go help your School District and Vote.
