Play Ball, Alden!

Play Ball, Alden!

Jacob Eberle, News Reporter

Alden Youth Baseball is returning for the upcoming Spring Season. It’s an extremely fun time of year for everyone involved, as the kids further learn and play the game of baseball before they get to a Modified level in middle school. Youth baseball ranges in ages from T-Ball leagues (5-6) all the way to majors (12-13). Each level has a different skill set that the coaches teach. For the younger kids, it’s all about the fundamentals of baseball, whereas the older kids will learn more complex skills and techniques. The season officially kicked off with an Opening Day Parade on April 29th. The Opening Day activities opened with a celebratory parade featuring the sponsoring companies, coaches, players, and others. The ceremony honored players that have been in Alden Youth Baseball for 5+ years, and had the Alden Bulldog himself throw the opening pitch. Then, there were fun activities for the children such as games, food, and bounce-houses. There was even a pie station for the players to pie themselves and their coaches. The pictures for opening day were cancelled, but they will be rescheduled towards the end of May. Baseball is a large part of American culture, and anyone can play it. That is a large reason why it’s such an important program for our youth. The kids involved learn plenty of life lessons, such as team work, sportsmanship, respect, hard work, etc. It’s also a great way to stay active during the spring and early summer.
