The One to the World initiative is the most noticeable change Alden High School has seen for the 2018-2019 school year. It’s what has brought students and teachers the Surface Pros, and subsequently, the ATLAS Team. However, most students only accredit One to the World for those two things, when in reality, this initiative is about much more. Behind the scenes, the One to the World initiative is changing the dynamics of the modern classroom, and shifting the focus of education from teacher-centered learning to student-centered learning. In addition, an emphasis on using educational skills such as problem solving, critical thinking, cooperation, and independent learning, are also defining factors of One to the World. As Mr. Ryan explains, the ultimate goal of the initiative is to prepare students for the 21st Century, and being sure to equip them with the skills they’ll need for when they enter the rapidly changing world ahead. While the cool new tech is an exciting bonus with the new school year ahead, the real drive of the One to the World initiative is what will truly change the classroom for the better, and inevitably, students’ entire futures.
