Alden High School’s Key Club has officially launched its annual Toys for Tots drive, continuing a beloved tradition that brightens the holiday season for children in need. Led by president Corinne Bishop, vice president Gwen Krieb, and club advisor Andrew Sigurdson, this initiative focuses on providing toys to local families who may be facing financial challenges during the holidays.
Toys for Tots, originally established by the United States Marine Reserve Corps, extends far beyond Alden. At the high school level, the drive is tailored to support the local community, ensuring that families nearby receive the joy of the season.
This year, the drive is also part of Alden High School’s Holiday Havoc, a school-wide competition that builds holiday spirit. Key Club has partnered with Student Congress to add an incentive for participation: the class donating the most toys will earn points toward their Holiday Havoc total.
In previous years, the drive has seen significant success. Last year’s collection of 170 toys set a new benchmark for generosity, and this year’s goal is to meet or exceed that number.
The drive emphasizes teamwork and community engagement. Key Club members and volunteers will sort donations to match families’ specific needs, ensuring the toys make a meaningful impact.
The Toys for Tots drive at Alden High School reflects the true spirit of the holidays: coming together to support those in need and spreading joy throughout the community. Students, staff, and community members are encouraged to participate by donating toys and helping to make this year’s drive the most successful yet.
