Alden High School is excited to introduce its new Women in STEM Club, a groundbreaking initiative designed to inspire and empower young women to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The club is led by passionate students and educators, including Bre Brunner, a senior designer at Bulldog Manufacturing, and other key members such as graduate Sylvia White, Beth Wojciechowski, and Mr. Turton.
Over the past few years, Alden High has focused on creating opportunities for young women to engage in STEM fields, with leadership roles gradually being taken on by female students. The club emerged from a series of initiatives, including conference presentations, panel discussions, and field trips to local manufacturing and construction companies, all aimed at showing young women that STEM careers are accessible and achievable.
The club provides a supportive environment for students to explore technical fields and engage in hands-on projects, while also addressing the challenges women often face in these male-dominated industries. Interviews with key members highlighted the importance of fostering diversity and offering a space where women can confidently pursue their interests in science and technology.
Looking ahead, the Women in STEM Club aims to expand its reach and continue providing valuable resources and experiences for future generations. Through the leadership of students and educators, the club is making significant strides toward breaking down barriers and opening doors for women in STEM at Alden High School.
