Blood Drive

Blood+Drive

On November 22nd, Alden will be hosting a Unyts Blood Drive in the Wilson R. Conrad Memorial Auditorium.  I talked to Mrs. Delzer, who is the Donate Life Club advisor, and Jenna Wlostowski, the president of the club to see what goes into the planning process, why you should donate, and what’s new for this blood drive.

When planning the blood drives Alden hosts so often, a lot of things happen behind the scenes to prepare.  First of all the club needs to coordinate with Unyts in Buffalo who is the club’s supporting group.  From there, a time frame is decided that works for both Unyts and our district.  Then a request must be submitted to Mr. Ryan for a fundraiser or activity.  When all of that is confirmed the last this to do is to make sure the space is ready and all the chairs and tables are available and that the Unyts staff will be here early for set up.

If you’re on the fence about donating, Jenna and Mrs. Delzer touched upon the multiple reasons you should donate.  The community itself has a strong tie to Unyts and donating blood because of Andrew’s Army.  Not only does it mean a lot to the Gramza’s and the Alden community, but you can also save three lives.  Your blood after donation is divided into platelets, plasma, and red blood cells.  And if that’s not reasoning enough, you can get a free ice cream sunday with many toppings to choose from.
