On Sunday, September 23, 2018 Alden High School participated in the Dash for Diversity. This was a fun event that clubs such as Peer Wellness and other students participated in that felt like having a good time with friends and supporting diversity. There were many people involved in the planning of the event and it was a very tough task. Some of the people involved in the planning include Mrs. Baumgartner, Mrs. Hazen and Jaime Hoerner. They planned this because they care about our community and how people are treated all over the world. This event took place at Buffalo State College at 10 a.m. From Alden, over 15 students, teachers, advisors and even Kojak attended. Every student there had a great time and said they would attend next year and that they hope it will continue to be a thing for many years to come. When students arrived at the event, they went into the gym to socialize, played games, and overall had a great time. After this, they ate their free lunch and met other people who attended. Next, the schools participated in the relay race as part of the event. The relay race part of the event was a three-person event. Each person would run or walk 1.6 miles. At the end of the event there was a big prize for the school with the most participation and pep at the rally. The winning school would receive a 2 hour pep rally hosted by a Kiss 98.5 DJ. The purpose of the Dash for Diversity was to create awareness of diversity and show the acceptance that our youth has. Overall, the event was a success and many students are excited for it next year.
