This week, Alden High School proudly recognizes two outstanding athletes who have demonstrated exceptional talent, dedication, and leadership in their respective sports.
Athlete of the Week: Addison Washburn (Varsity Rifle)
This week’s Athlete of the Week is senior and Varsity Rifle Captain Addison Washburn. A key member of last year’s Section VI Team State Champions, Addy has started this season in incredible form. She has posted sectional-qualifying scores in each of the first three matches, consistently ranking in the top 10 for Section VI. Her best performance so far has been a personal best, shooting a remarkable 287 out of 300 possible points. Addy’s leadership extends beyond her scoring, as she is the first to set up and the last to leave, guiding a predominantly underclassmen team with dedication and grace. Congratulations, Addy!

Athlete of the Week: Nate Jegierski (Varsity Boys Basketball)
Senior Guard Nate Jegierski earns this week’s second Athlete of the Week honor for his impactful performances on the basketball court. Over the week, Nate averaged 12.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 3.0 steals per game. His contributions were crucial in a dramatic 51-44 home-opener victory against East Aurora, which also marked the team’s first ECIC win. In that game, Nate’s 12 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals showcased his all-around abilities. Most notably, he sealed the win with a clutch free throw in the closing moments. Congratulations, Nate!
